Dale Owen had a brilliant idea: commission nearly twenty American luthiers to build the same guitar. A D-18 with an Adirondack spruce top, mahogany back and sides, the same pre-war bracing pattern, and a shade top. For the esteemed builders it was a piece of Americana; for the young ones, a way to reach new players. For years Dale toured with the collection, and he recently decided to pass it on to the next generation.
In that spirit, this page lets you hear them and decide what sounds good to you. It's a blind taste test: the Pepsi challenge of pre-war style, one-man boutique shops.
Enjoy.
